The practice was founded in 1979 by Martin L. Sisselman, an experienced insurance defense attorney. Douglas S. Schwartz, formerly of the Union County Prosecutor's Office, joined the firm in 1992 and became a partner in 1999, when the name of the firm was changed to Sisselman & Schwartz, LLP. Scott Lipowitz joined the firm as an associate in 2015. Samuel P. Reisen joined the firm in 2016. The firm has concentrated on the representation of retailers such as Sears, Roebuck and Co. and Lord & Taylor since its inception, and presently represents a number of the nation's largest department store companies.
