The practice was founded in 1979 by Martin L. Sisselman, an experienced insurance defense attorney. Douglas S. Schwartz, formerly of the Union County Prosecutor's Office, joined the firm in 1992 and became a partner in 1999, when the name of the firm was changed to Sisselman & Schwartz, LLP. The firm has concentrated on the representation of retailers such as Burlington Coat Factory, Sears, Roebuck and Co. and Lord & Taylor since its inception, and presently represents some of the nation's largest facilities management and department store companies.
